By definition, to nourish means to provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition.
As mothers, we often think of this term in relation to how we care and provide for our children. I find that doing the same for ourselves is of equal importance, especially during critical periods in life when how we care for ourselves can have a direct impact on the health of our children.
At Nourished Mothers, you will find credible nutrition and lifestyle advice to help you nourish your own body and mind as well as that of your baby, whether you're trying to conceive, navigating pregnancy, or you're in the early years postpartum.
If you are currently breastfeeding, you will find support and coaching through lactation and feeding challenges as you work to provide your new baby with the best possible source of nourishment available to them. Support is also available during pregnancy with prenatal breastfeeding education and support, whether you're in search of a prenatal breastfeeding class or would prefer an individualized consultation.
As a dietitian, lactation consultant, and peer, I wish to share with you what I have learned from research and clinical practice, as well as through my own attempt at this whole motherhood thing. It’s not always perfect, contrary to how some women portray motherhood to be on social media, but you already knew that, didn’t you?
You will never find me promoting Fad Diets, or really any diet for that matter. I am what you might call a Non-Diet Dietitian. I preach INTUITIVE EATING. I preach REAL FOODS. I preach BALANCE. And I preach NOURISHMENT. This is the lifestyle you’ll live when you become a Nourished Mother.
From one Mother to another,
Kayla Thorngate, RDN, IBCLC, PMHC
